Free Pattern - Crochet Fall Pumpkin Head Amigurumi

Crochet Fall Pumpkin Head Amigurumi

What’s more fun than carving a pumpkin at Halloween? Crocheting one that will last well past the season! To kick off my Fall Pumpkinfest (I just now thought of that while typing so there might be only this one.) … to kick it off, I’ve crocheted a little amigurumi pumpkin headed guy. Super cute.

It’s a Free-For-All

I didn’t know what I was doing while crocheting this! So, this will be the only pattern I release, no “pay for zero ads” pdf on this one. Just the free pattern below, so you’ll have to endure the ads. #sorrynotsorry .

I’ve made a few amigurumis, but that’s just not my vibe. I love to crochet blankets and things. I do like to crochet pumpkins, but I don’t consider them as plushies, per se. I’ll do another quick post on making a simple crochet pumpkins at a later time. For now, let’s just see how I made this guy.

The Materials I Used

I used scrap yarn for this project. So I would suggest you use what you have on hand and try to get a “pumpkin-y” color for the head. I had Caron One Pound skeins left over from 2 projects, worsted weight or 4 weight. I used a 5 mm hook. And of course, a darning needle to sew this little guy together. Safety eyes were used, but you could use buttons, or yarn, or embroidery thread… use you what you got!

The Pattern

I was winging this, so you will see in the pictures, the arms are wonky. It may have just been where I placed them. Place them where ever you think they look best on your guy.

NOTE: Use caution when using safety eyes on items for small children. I strongly suggest you skip the safety eyes and sew/embroider the eyes instead.

To Make The Head

  1. Chain 2. SC 6 times into the 2nd chain from the hook (6 sts)
  1. SC 2 times into the first sc from round 1. (Place stitch marker on 1st st.) SC twice into each of the remaining 5 sts. Join to first sc st. (12 sts)
  1. Ch 2 (does counts as first dc st), 2 dc in next st. *dc, 2dc* to end. Join. (18 sts)
  1. Ch 2, dc in same st. dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in same st., *dc, 2dc* to end. Join. (24 sts)
  1. Ch 2, dc in each st. Join. (24 sts)
  1. Ch 2, dc in next st. dc2tog, *dc, dc, dc2tog* to end. Join. (18 sts)
    1. STOP right here if you are using safety eyes! I positioned mine on the 5th row, in the middle of the stitches, with 2 dc between the eyes.
  1. Ch 1, sc in next st. *Sc2tog, sc* around until you only have 6 sts left. Tie off with a long tail.
  1. Using thin black yarn or thick embroidery thread, sew on a cute little mouth. I used some scrap brown yarn and made a little i-cord and attached to the top for a stem.

To Make The Body

Start with the little arms, make 2.

  1. Chain 2. SC 4 times into the 2nd chain from the hook. (4 sts)
  1. SC 2 times into the first sc from round 1. (Place stitch marker on 1st st.) SC twice into each of the remaining 3 sts. Join to first sc st. (8 sts)
  1. Chain 1. sc in each st. Join. (8 sts)
  1. Repeat 3
  1. Repeat 3 (EDIT AFTERTHOUGHT : I think next time I make this, only 4 rounds will be enough, you do what you think.)
  1. Tie off and make a second arm.
  1. Flatten each arm and place to the side to use later.

Next make the little legs, make 2.

Join. (8 sts)
  1. Repeat 3
  1. Tie off and leave a long tail for the first leg. Make a second leg and do not tie off.
  1. Place a little bit of stuffing in each leg.

Now, the Body

  1. Starting from the 2nd leg, sc into and around the 1st leg 8 sts and continue around the 2nd leg with 8 sts. Join to 1st sc. (16 sts)
  1. Ch 1, 2 sc per sts all the way around. Join. (32 sts)
  1. Ch 1, sc in each st. Join (32 sts)
  1. Ch 1, sc in next 2, dec, * sc in next 4, dec* 4 times, sc in next 2, dec, join. (26)
  1. Ch 1, * sc in next 4, dec* 4 times, sc in next 2, join. (22 sts)
  1. Ch 1, sc in each st. Join (22 sts)
    1. Flatten arms with join “down” and place with stitch markers (or other means of attaching) to the sides where you feel they look best.
  1. Ch 1, sc in each st. When you get to the arms, sc through both side and into the row, each arm should be 4 sts. Join. (22 sts)
  1. Ch 1, sc in each st., Join. (22 sts)
  1. Ch 1, *sc in next 2, dec* 4 times, sc in last st. Join (18 sts)
  1. Ch 1, *sc, sc2tog* 6 times. Join. (12 sts)
    1. Stuff the body
  1. Tie off and leave a long tail.

Now to put them all together!

Sew the head on with the long tail from the body. And decorate with all the Halloween things!!
